What is one fun fact about you?
I've been riding my bike to work for most of my 25 years here. I've moved around a few times, but have been lucky to always live within 5 miles of campus, until a couple of years ago. Now, I’m just a bit further away, but close to Caltrain. I still ride my bike to and from the train at both ends of my commute.
What is one thing that you like about working at Stanford?
It's hard to name one thing; there are so many. But I'll say Stanford's commitment to balance in life and healthy living. I love the HIP and BeWell programs. They are constantly coming up with new categories to define a healthy life and ideas to challenge. Through these programs, I feel like Stanford cares about my well-being and who I am as an individual.
Tell us briefly about an event, project, program or initiative you were involved with at Stanford that you're most proud of.
When I first started working in Software Licensing in IT Services (now UIT), we made multiple copies of CDs of all our software programs, loaned them out to users in person, and tracked the physical copies. Our library of software filled an entire office. At some point, I don’t remember the year, we converted our licensing and lending processes to an online program, which is still in use today. It took most of a year to complete the project. It created more efficiencies for our team and all our clients - the software users in every business unit and school across campus.
What is one of your favorite memories while working at Stanford?
In 2010 I was selected as one of a handful of people to lead the Cardinal Walk, along with Provost John Etchemendy at the helm. What an honor! The funny thing was, I was limping from a knee injury and another of our group was in a walking boot from a recent bone fracture. We went as fast as we could but some of the walkers were faster and passing us, so we didn’t exactly lead the walk.
Leave your Legacy: What piece of guidance would you give a new hire at Stanford?
Keep exploring all that Stanford has to offer - classes and workshops, sports and arts events, a gorgeous walk- and bike-friendly campus, additional land for hiking into the hills, the wellness and recreation programs, the gardens and outdoor sculptures. I could go on and on... There is always something new and interesting at Stanford, in addition to the top-notch teaching, research and innovations.
